“Having gathered my management experience in a small company, the IMPM for me has clarified many terms like strategy, innovation, corporate culture, organizational learning, etc. thus giving me a much clearer picture of what the job of a manager – especially in a large company – consists of. I think this only worked because the theory was complemented with field studies, the practical experience of the participants, who came from a number of cultural backgrounds and who were on different seniority levels.”

“We were attracted by the concept of the IMPM, which focuses on the real-life practices and challenges of senior managers, as well as on the mindsets that are required to meet these challenges and optimize individual and organizational performance.”

“A traditional MBA gave me the answers.  IMPM taught me to ask the right questions.”

Who should attend?

IMPM participants are usually sponsored by their company and companies such as Lufthansa, Fujitsu and LG have been sending managers for years. We also welcome entrepreneurs and individual participants.

Very experienced managers

The IMPM welcomes experienced practicing managers, executives and leaders from all over the world who are open to learning through new experiences and want to take their leadership skills to the next level.

Participants are typically 35-55 years of age with over 15 years’ work experience, including extensive managerial experience.

Why such criteria? Because the entire IMPM premise is based on sharing managerial experiences and insights in order for managers to help each other grow and develop.

Sending a team of practicing managers

Whilst individual participants clearly benefit substantially from the program, if they attend as part of a company team there is additional learning about the diversity existing within their organization. They share their experiences and thereby gain a deeper understanding of how the entire organization works. This leads to the development of new networks that are effective both for the individuals and their organization.

What about entrepreneurs?

With such a strong focus on leadership development and international management, the IMPM can be beneficial to entrepreneurs who own and / or run their company. They have the additional benefit of being able to implement new ideas immediately because of their unique influence on the company.

What’s in it for your company?

The IMPM was designed specifically for organizations that want to build teams of managers able to lead innovation and change.

Because the entire program is based on concrete issues, the participating companies benefit in many ways:

  1. managers bring their learning back into the company, through Reflection Papers, a Venture project and the major paper written for their Masters Degree. All this can make investment in the IMPM a high value alternative to bringing in consultants.
  2. managers share their learning through formal and informal session exercises, notes, discussions with colleagues, which results in high-level organizational development.
  3. the IMPM can often broaden a manager’s international perspective more effectively and cost efficiently than a temporary assignment abroad.

In this way, the management development gained by the individual results in organizational development within the sponsoring company.

What’s in it for you as an individual?

Participants come out stronger, better able to understand and handle conflict, and have a new skill set that allows them to lead people and lead change. They learn how to take a step back when the focus on an immediate business problem is too close and narrow. In doing so, they gain a broader perspective that takes into account the many strategic issues pertaining to culture, the limitations of the analytical approach and the challenges of co-operation.

All of this results in a more important role within their organization and new opportunities throughout the rest of their professional career. In short, you can expect to be changed – profoundly transformed – professionally and personally.

Beyond an MBA

The IMPM is a carefully designed alternative to the typical EMBA or MBA offered at even the most prominent business schools. Some IMPM participants already have an MBA, and recognise that the IMPM takes them beyond the MBA.

Designed to take managers to a deeper level of understanding and insight into personal and organizational practice than orthodox MBA programs, the IMPM focuses on the practice of management, rather than on business functions and analysis.

It is therefore best suited to experienced managers who are likely to move into top management.
